I guess “open” is meant in a proverbial way.
Welcome to our virtual office. Like many before us, Tom and I decided to launch our new venture, MarTrek Digital, during a global pandemic. Our literal covid business baby has been birthed from the depths of the work from home slog plus the desperate need to seek adventure outdoors in the open air. The new wave of virtual availability and anywhere work has supported much of the digital industry over the last 18 months. What’s so interesting to me, is that during a time that so many have felt isolated and depressed (rightfully so), so disconnected and forlorn, there can still be so many seedlings of growth popping out of the ash.
MarTrek Digital is that for me. My seedling to nurture and grow, my light at the end of this seemingly never-ending and grueling pandemic tunnel. I have worked the 9-5’s, the 8-8’s, and the connections all the time 24-7’s. I have done the 3-hour round-trip commutes to the office, legitimately 5 days a week taking a car, a train, a boat, and a bus to get to and from the office (in one day!). I have worked non profit, fundraising (ever heard of Squash- it’s incredible, check it out), association, large company, small company, start-up, and Fortune 500 level financial Industry positions. And, I have done it while being a mother. And a wife. And a friend. Now a mother of 3 under 6, I am ready to focus on what I am passionate about, and best at. And, so is my business partner, Tom Felgar.
Tom and I met during the days of that 3-hour commute on planes, trains, and automobiles. We sat 5×5 cubicle to cubicle in our corner of the corporate climb, discussing our dreams for the future. We discussed car purchases, and the newest planned REI purchase (for Tom typically a new bike or bike part, like a state-of-the-art Thule bike rack).
We bonded over a love for Jeep (it was my first and most beloved car), and the great outdoors. I watched as he applied for his MBA, got married, and started his own family.
This mid-level job was where so many professional dreams were born. It’s where we first launched our own personal consulting businesses, where we first began developing creative resumes, and we both secured strategic consulting gigs in addition to our full-time commitments.
But, it was also where we eventually parted ways. We each took time to do our own growing, both personally and professionally. It wasn’t until the pandemic, that we reconnected again originally about camping, traveling, and surviving this year with our young families, and then with the idea for this business venture.
My point of telling you all this is to help paint the picture of how we got here. It took all of this for the stars to align and for Tom and I to come back to the point of starting this venture together. We connected on a personal front- similar family values, love for the outdoors, and “adventure awaits” mentality. We hold similar work-life values as well. We want to love what we do, for people we care about and for businesses that are doing good work. Specifically, businesses we are now frequent users of – campgrounds and RV parks! There is a time and a place for both of these values at MarTrek Digital.
We are innovative, creative, highly motivated individuals who can hunker down and push out loads of content on our own. We can do it even better as a team.
We bring different skill sets to the table that make us a highly productive unit. Tom will help you conquer your SEO and SEM fears, properly tag your website, and get you searchable and findable quickly for your clients. I can help manage your paid media strategy, grow your social following, and use the right hashtags for your brand. Together, we can walk you through your strategic planning, 5 year plan, and tell your campground or RV Parks story using data driven analytics that will knock your socks off. Need help finding your ideal customers to fill your campground for the season? We’re on it. Need fractional marketing expertise to step in with your team to execute some day-to-day work at the park? Let’s talk!
I am so excited to finally be here, on this amazing (sort of scary, sort of thrilling, totally ready for it) adventure and am happy to kick off things with this digital hello. Now that you know a little bit about us, don’t be afraid to say hi. Take a spin around the new site and let us know what you think. Already super excited to work together? We can’t wait to hear from you.
For now, I’ll leave you with this quote.
“Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” – Helen Keller
